I didn't realize that all my life I was searching for and needing a coach. We get great advice from our friends, however, I wish I got a lot of this advice when I was in my 20s.
I got laid off from my last job, which I knew was coming, because I worked on a federal grant and all grants come to an end. I prepared myself to transition to leave the company because when the grants were expended the company was going to be re-organized. However, I didn't know what I wanted to do next. I enjoyed being a project/program manager, but what was next for me? Being stuck in this conundrum, I was comfortable looking for another job doing similar work. Then I got laid off and I took that time off to relax and to figure out what I wanted to do next. I hung out with one of my besties for a month in the states, which was great and came back home for the St. Croix Crucian Christmas festival and partied for a month. I enjoyed my two months off of not working. Then it occurred to me one day that I loved coaching! I had a life coach a few years back that helped me to understand and resolve my issues and I enjoyed helping people so this will be a great transition for me. So I did my research, I found a coaching school and I quickly enrolled. That was the best decision I made for myself.
Being on St. Croix meant the world to me. I am an island girl who loves the beach, being around my close family and spending time with friends. I saw that St. Croix needed a coach and I believe in healing one person at a time to help heal the community. There's a stigma in the Caribbean of seeking mental health assistance when it's needed. Even though coaching is not therapy, some people shy away from it, because they feel insecure about their issues and wanting to get better. Hiring a coach for myself, opened my eyes to many of my issues and helped me to resolve them, and so I wanted to offer a similar service for others too.
I am a bit unconventional in my coaching but that's how I flow. My personality compliments my coaching methods along with the techniques that I've learned.
