SB-C: Tell us the why behind your business. RG: My "Why" started when I found out I was going to be a mother. The impending birth of my daughter was a huge AHA moment for me. I knew that I was not living into my full potential in the workplace, nor was I leveraging my talents and gifts in a way that honored my experiences and career goals. The question: "what kind of mother did I want to be?" was always at the heart of my self reflections. Did I want to show my daughter that women should take the hand that they've been dealt and just exist or did I want to show her what it meant to live your life experiences out loud, helping others find their voice and thrive in their career and businesses? I chose the latter and went on a self-discovery journey that led me to the work I do today as a leadership coach and speaker at RashidaGeddes.com.
SB-C: What major challenges did you face when setting up your business and how did you overcome them? RG: Now that I had found my voice, challenge #1 was finding clients who needed what I had to offer. That required me putting myself out there, getting uncomfortable asking for the sale and sharing my story on and offline so my ideal clients could resonate and understand why I was the best person to help them move through their own challenges and show them what's possible when you live your unapologetic truth.
SB-C: Who has been the greatest influence on you, since starting your business and why. RG: I would have to say my partner in love and life, Henoc. He has been an entrepreneur for most of his life and has been my support system, my rock. He pushes me to think bigger and bolder each time I try to talk myself out of getting out of my comfort zone. I can't say this enough to women, but who you choose as a life partner will have the greatest impact on your ability to reach that next level of your success. Choose wisely!
SB-C: What is the vision for your business and where do you see it five years from now? RG: I envision a world where Millennials are leveraging their talents and gifts to change the way the world works. I want our next generation to own their voice in service of a bigger mission - a more meaningful purpose - and step into their power as leaders and change agents. Five years from now, I am speaking on stages around the world, growing my coaching business and bringing other women along for the journey.
SB-C: Our community motto is share your secrets and share your success. Please share one secret and one success with our community. RG: Your biggest blessings sometimes come at the most inconvenient times, embrace the journey - the highs, the lows and everything in between because what's waiting for you on that journey when you move forward in spite of the challenges is bigger than even you could imagine!
